Dear Tyler.

Please accept this post on our website and as found attached to this email our application for a 2022 Neighbourhood Small Grant.

Our objective is to expand our digital archive capacity. To meet our current and future needs, as we collect, curate, and provide access to an online community “memory bank”.

B.E.P.R.A. is a small, grass roots, community organized and supported residents association in the DTES of Vancouver BC Canada.

See our “ABOUT” Page:

Traditionally with the kind and generous support of The Vancouver Foundation (Via Neighbourhood Small Grants”) we have put on a community wide BBQ / social gathering, to in part,  facilitate access our public BBQ’s (funded in part by The Vancouver Foundation) wherein which we have invited and or received such persons as Libby Davies, Jenny Kwan, Melanie Mark,  Vancouver Police (VPD), Vancouver Fire Services (VFS), etc. Traditionally we have have had great reception and dare I say success in our community engagement visa via the annual B.E.P.R.A. BBQ.

See the following years  / grants in the following links.

Note: B.E.P.R.A. has had a long standing relationship with NSG / TVF and going back to the year of 2015 B.E.P.R.A. has partnered with and relied on (in part) The Vancouver Foundation support to make  it ‘all happen”.

Re: 2020 Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants
CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I am writing to you today to advise that the Neighbourhood Granting Committee (NGC) has chosen your application to be funded by the Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants program.
There is a form you must sign setting out the conditions which you will do your grant that needs be signed.  I can either mail you the form and you return it to me or you can meet me at my home (around the corner from Strathcona Community Centre) and we can socially distance ourselves as I provide you with your cheque and obtain your signature.  Please let me know what you would prefer.
Again, congratulations – your application shows how we can proceed in these difficult times.
PS – don’t forget that once your project is completed and you provide me with a short summary (and perhaps some photos), you can apply again for another grant!!

In the spirit of reconciliation, NSG acknowledges that we live, work and play in the unceded and traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples – xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
We also recognize that our growing program takes place across multiple Indigenous lands and traditional territories within BC.
Acknowledging territory shows recognition of and respect for Indigenous people – both past and present. Recognition and respect are essential elements of establishing healthy, reciprocal relations which are the key to reconciliation.

“Small is powerful: small amounts of money have a potential to bring powerful changes in community”

This years NSG, albeit is small, in relative terms literally will make a life long impact on B.E.P.R.A., the DTES community and to The City Of Vancouver in providing a life long archive of pictures, videos, stories, and happenings.

We propose securing a lifetime (99 years Lease) on cloud storage space.

BEPRA will be providing access to the cloud storage space to Residential / Commercial tenants @ B.E.P., NHS / Terrahousing and The City of Vancouver, Residential Tenancy Branch /Board and various other stake holders as needs be.

Example link of how the cloud storage will work:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!  I am writing to you today to advise that the Neighbourhood Granting Committee (NGC) has chosen your application to be funded by the Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants program.

The documents, pictures, and videos archived and made accessible will provide tenants and stakeholders an opportunity to preserve such things like:

– Copies of rental agreements,
– Maintenance requests forms,
– Incident reports.
– Pictures of Damage / vandalism and
– Community BBQ / Meeting media such as Pictures, Videos, and emails / written correspondence.
– Association emails
– Website backups and archive
– BEPRA / Associations Document server / Computer Hard drive backups

With 40 tenants (most of who’s incomes are income assistance / PWN – Persons With Disabilities) the amount of disk space needed grows almost yearly as we social distance and make use of the Internet and digital formats to communicate and document life. This means less email / drive space for individuals using services such as Google’s Gmail etc.

At some point we all will be having to make a choice to either delete precious memories in the form of pictures and videos or important communications inside of emails or pay for more storage at ever increasing pricing.

So our plan is simple and benefits all who choose to use it.

Instead of  paying a premium price year over year for web server disk space, we can use our cloud storage wherein we can share website files, documents, etc.,  and for the foreseeable future avoid running out of disk space to host and serve various files and digital media / content. It will server as a central, reliable repository for the website and social and traditional media archive.

Why the Lifetime plan?

“You do not need to worry about your files ever again-they will be kept safe and secure with us. For a lifetime! No monthly or yearly payments, no further costs, just one payment to get your lifetime cloud storage.”

Why Lifetime plan with pCloud?

“pCloud – among the top 5 in the world”

“With a user base of over 16 million worldwide and an industry-first LIFETIME PLAN, pCloud is a super secure online storage space for all of your memorable photos, videos, favorite music, personal and work documents.”

Tyler: We are happy to see you onboard with The Vancouver Foundation NSG program and we hope we can have as good of a relationship with you as we had with Roberta Robertson your predecessor

With kind regards,

John:McILwraith on behalf of B.E.P.R.A.

One-time payment: 1140.00 USD $400.00 USD or Approx: $551.46 Canadian Dollar

    Premium Plus 2 TB
    1140USD/ $280.00 USD One-time payment or $386.50 Canadian Dollars

    As We said here:

We secured (purchased) the storage before hand (on October 11th our last chance to get the 75% off thanksgiving coupon) in the anticipation of and a reasonable expectation we would receive a NSG. I am thankful I pulled the trigger a day early than I began to draft out the grant application, and much more than that —> Thank you so much Vancouver Foundation, NSG, Tyler Wong and the Grant Committee!

As it is I have joined the NSG Grant Committee! Happy to be able to give back to the process, NSG's have been a significant partner of BEPRA and our community, it's funding is in part why our website and email server has been online going on 1/2 a decade now.

So far we have used the cloud server storage to share pdf email attachments with NSG a 79mb pdf file that will not be taking up gmail or City of Vancouver email server space.

In just the last week we have been able to upload and save for the archives open to the public two public events on the corner of Main and Hastings. The first is a march for housing, the second was a parade of First Nations veterans and officers.
