An email to us:
In light of recent developments with the COVID-19 virus being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, and calls for “social distancing” by the provincial government, the VTU Steering Committee has decided to postpone our 2020 AGM and Convention, which was scheduled for March 22nd.
This decision did not come lightly. Our AGM is the most important meeting of the year for VTU members to participate in our union’s democracy, reflect on the past year, and set our sights on our next collective actions. It is exactly for this reason that the Steering Committee wants to ensure that all members can attend this event at a time when it does not endanger their health.
Alternate Date To Be Determined.
The Steering Committee is working to find an alternate date at the same venue – the Russian Hall. This venue is preferred for its location adjacent to the Downtown Eastside, its accessible design, and its affordability. Stay tuned for the rescheduled date, time, and venue to be announced.
City Grant Vote
A key agenda item at this year’s AGM will be voting on whether or not to accept the Renters Services Grant, which has been offered to the VTU by the City of Vancouver. Steering Committee will work with city liaisons to ensure that the offer is not rescinded until members are given the chance to weigh in.
We are therefore planning to hold a livestream question and answer session that you can either attend online, or call in using you phone. This session will be followed by an online survey for members to provide input. Details will be announced soon.
If you have not heard about the Renters Services Grant, we encourage you to read more about it here: www.vancouvertenantsunion.ca/
